• Volunteer on a permaculture organic farm in Togo •
A unique immersive experience!
Contribute to the development of healthy agriculture
Detailed programme
Frères Agriculteurs et Artisans pour le Développement (FAGAD) (Brother Farmers and Craftsmen for Development) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1990. FAGAD works for local development and cultural exchanges through voluntary work between northern countries and Togo.
FAGAD's idea is to create a farm with the appropriate technology for agricultural production. Local and organic farming, a farm where most of the inputs for production come from the local environment. It's also an opportunity to raise awareness of best practice in land, forest and water management.
Thanks to the first international volunteers in 2017, activities such as raising local chickens and goats and beekeeping are being developed. From 2019, the concept of permaculture has been added as a best practice in land, forest and water management for sustainable development. Rabbit and duck rearing were also added to diversify both plant and animal production.
The volunteer's role:
- Layout of the farm
- Construction of the stables
- Building and fitting out accommodation
- Finding water
- Feeding the animals
- Planting fruit and medicinal trees
- Harvesting
- Carrying out surveys of local farmers on their farming practices (land, foerst and water management)
