" I have just returned from an incredible 3 months in Castelnau-d'Estrétefonds (20 minutes from Toulouse) and I cannot thank Aliore enough for pairing me with such a wonderful family! Soizick is a fantastic coordinator and throughout the application process and placement organisation she was approachable, quick to respond and is clearly passionate about what she does. I really appreciated her dedication to finding a family that showed a genuine desire to make my experience as memorable as possible and allow me the space to help their children improve their English - they honestly couldn't have done enough for me and I shared some amazing experiences with them during my time there.
The price of the homestay tutoring programme was very attractive and affordable for such an enriching experience, and particularly for the length of time I spent in France. Through consistent everyday immersion in the French language and culture as well as meaningful conversations with my hosts, their extended family and friends, my French undoubtedly improved - particularly my comprehension and confidence in my ability which I'm incredibly grateful for! I'm sure I'll keep in touch with my hosts and be back to visit them soon!
Merci du fond du cœur Aliore - I'd fully recommend you to anyone looking for an affordable and rewarding experience abroad! "

" I think Aliore is a solid program for adventurous and independent people like me. You have to be somebody who is flexible and adaptable, as there is a lot that is outside of your control. To me that’s exciting and challenging, and it helped me learn a lot about myself as well as the French culture and language. It provides a very unique opportunity for individual growth and cultural exchange "

" Aliore was very helpful to me. They put me in touch with an excellent French family and we were able to have the kind of cultural exchange I was hoping for. The agency is very responsive, and they answer emails straight away with good, clear explanations. They also give out lots of useful information before the placement to help you settle into your role. I had a fantastic time for 6 weeks! "

" Aliore connected me with people with whom I hope to stay in touch for the rest of my life. I was welcomed into their home at a level I could not have imagined, and they were very generous in sharing both their friendships and family relationships. The experience of helping them with their English was challenging, interesting and very enjoyable. "

" Living with a French family for 5 weeks as a Language Assistant was a unique, shared cultural experience. Formal and informal English instruction was available most days in a non pressured way. In return through immersion, I learnt about French culture, my French improved and I became more confident with conversation. "

" I recently returned from 5 weeks in the South of France in Montpellier, and 3 weeks in Besancon as a Language Assistant through Aliore. Thank you to Soizick Chartier for supporting me throughout and always being there for me if I needed to ask any questions or get any advice from her. The family warmly welcomed me into their home and immediately made me feel as a member of their family, even their dog too.
I really enjoyed sharing my language and culture with the children and the parents, as well as being able to learn more French too. This programme was perfect for me, as I really wanted to pursue my interest in French and carry on learning it. It was a pleasure to help improve the children’s English and it was lovely to see them progress throughout my time there.
The family were also very helpful and allowed me to ask questions whenever I needed to if I didn’t understand certain words in French. I loved that they involved me in all of their activities, whereby I met their friends, their family members and we went to different gatherings which I really enjoyed. One of them also introduced me to one of their students, so it was nice to also meet up with someone my age too and socialise with different people. The family took me on wonderful sightseeing trips, and they always planned some exciting activities for us to all do.
During my time in Montpellier, I was also lucky to find a French group where I could practice my French at conversation workshops with people from all over the world which I loved, This has been an extremely memorable experience, that I will never forget and I would definitely do it again. "

" I had an amazing experience with my host family. They were so welcoming and kind and friendly and gracious and fun. It was so enjoyable to be with them and their extended family and friends. They were the perfect family for me. I'm so glad I found your website and that in spite of Covid interrupting our plans we were able to have this experience. I would definitely recommend this program. Thank you. "

" This has been my fifth placement with Aliore and I feel very lucky as it has been one of my best. My host, the nicest a language assistant could wish for, welcomed me with grace and affection. I feel I have made a new good friend.
What made my placement great has been the perfect match between me as an English language tutor and my student host A.M. Both shared similar age and values, in essence, the desire to contribute to society and to have good quality social interactions. Convivial afternoons with her friends have been frequent.
I have enjoyed imparting my host regular ESL lessons. Her high motivation to learn English made my job easier and pleasant. She has actually expressed her satisfaction with the program which, as she said, has given her confidence in using the new language which in turn helped her improve her English language skills.
During my stay my host has offered me the opportunities to embark on educational excursions. Together we travelled to mediaeval cities outside Lyon, visited museums and places of cultural interest including the museum of the Lumière Brothers, French manufacturers of photography equipment, and earliest filmmakers.
My placement ended with being part of the wonderful celebration of the Basilica Our Lady of Fourvière, one of the major symbols of Lyon.
Whilst my placement has been wonderful, I regret one thing: having made little progress in improving my French.
Unlike previous experiences, on this occasion I did not find ways of practising French in a group setting outside the household, along with other ESL tutors . No doubt it has been my lack of confidence in seeking guidance with this particular issue.
I am truly grateful to my host and most of all to Soizick, the most wonderful founding member & manager of Aliore.
Her choice of placement has been perfect! Thank you so much Soizick, you are indeed the best! Thank you! "

" I have recently returned from four weeks in central France as a Language Assistant through Aliore. The experience far exceeded my very high expectations. The family warmly welcomed me into their home and immediately made me feel as a member of their family. I enjoyed speaking English with the parents as well as the children. It was a pleasure to help the teenage boy with his English homework. In the evenings the entire family and I played games together in English. On the weekends the family took me on wonderful sightseeing trips and during weekdays they made sure that I had interesting activities. I would love to have the family visit me here in the U.S. and I hope to see them again on my next trip to France. Soizick Chartier, the founder and director of Aliore, is always available to answer any questions. She takes a personal interest in matching Language Assistants with families, which results in excellent experiences for everyone. "

" This was a really fantastic experience. I spend six weeks with a family in coastal, western France (Pornic, in the Loire Valley) and came away with lifelong friends and a real cultural experience. We went shopping and walking together, cooked together, went on many family excursions (clamming, Puy du Fou, took the train to Nantes to visit museums and gardens, beach combing, family farm, dinner and bbq with friends and family, etc.) and played a lot of cards! This part of France sees mostly French, German and Swiss tourists so I heard very little English (and most people spoke very little English) so it really forced me to use and practice the little French I had which was a great but also very challenging experience. The family and I managed to communicate just fine, however, with a combination of our language skills (Franglish!) and miming and drawing and Googling. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone. The process was easy with the help of Soizick from Aliore. She was always quick to respond and answered my many, many questions which really put me at ease during this whole experience. When my Homestay was cancelled two summers in a row due to Covid she stayed in touch and worked with me to find another family this summer! Seriously a top notch company and experience. I would highly recommend it. "

" I had the greatest experience with Aliore. I was with the most incredible family in the North of France. I was able to visit so many different sites, travel around on my own a bit, and most importantly, meet so many amazing people! Aliore was so helpful, and I’d recommend this program to anyone looking to take on an adventure in a beautiful and diverse country. "

" The family was extremely kind and they lived in the beautiful countryside. I picked up a lot of French, especially everyday phrases that I never learnt at school. The family did everything possible to make me feel at home, and I feel that their English improved as did my French. It was a very genuine experience, and I’ll definitely be keeping in touch with the family. They also made a huge effort to immerse me into their culture with our evening meals etc, and asked lots of questions about my culture in return. Merci beaucoup to Soizick and my host family! "

" Aliore truly gave me the experience of a lifetime! The process of matching me with an amazing host family was quick and painless, and I found it was very easy to navigate the steps I needed to take. I felt safe and cared for, but I also appreciated that Aliore wasn't looking over my shoulder every step of the way. They gave me a guideline and plenty of priceless information, and they were always there if I needed something, but for the most part this was the independent/freeing experience I was looking for! I found Aliore to be trustworthy and helpful, and I am so grateful to have been able to do one of their programs! "

" Despite the travel restrictions, due to the coronavirus pandemic, I was able to go to France and was very well received by my host family. I stayed in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region for six weeks, six of the most incredible weeks I've experienced. I got to visit a wide range of beautiful locations within the region, with my host family. The immersion in the language and culture was like nothing I've ever experienced before. From the second I woke up on a morning, to going to bed at night, it was total immersion in the French language and culture, with the exception of the English lessons, of course! The children were very eager to learn which undoubtedly made my task easier and they always had ideas of what they wanted to learn, which made the lessons more enjoyable for them. As a French language student at University, the immersion was something I definitely wanted to experience before my year abroad. I've now had the opportunity to experience that and I've also now made a decision as to where I'd like to spend my year abroad. Without the help of Soizick and my host family, none of this would have been possible, so, un grand merci à vous ! "

" I had a wonderful time with Aliore. I was placed with 3 families in Paris, Marseille and Montpellier over a 6-month period as part of a sabbatical year. Each family was really lovely, welcoming and included me as one of the family. I enjoyed being able to teach English in an informal setting and having both children and adults as students. Through teaching and mealtimes, we were all able to participate in a truly cultural exchange. I loved my time living in France and being able to explore the city/region during my free time. My French really improved as well. I hope to stay in touch with all of the families. I would also like to thank Soizick for organising the placements and staying in touch throughout. I highly recommend doing an Aliore placement! "

" Discovering Aliore was truly a blessing! This past summer teaching English in France was by far the best way to spend my summer as a teacher. I can not say enough great things about the association- Aliore allows individuals to have the freedom and flexibility of teaching English in an informal setting (which is the best way to learn a language!) The company took the time to find me the perfect family. I was able to work with my family and discover what they were looking to achieve during my month's stay. It was way more than the teaching; it was an experience for both parties involved. My only regret is that I wish I did it for two months instead of one! A heartfelt thank you goes out to the program director, Soizick, for being patient with me and helping me make my dream summer come true! I promise you that you will not regret your decision to go with Aliore! "

" “I have studied French and it had been a dream of mine to live in France for a couple of years now, but my financial circumstances always held me back. Then one day I stumbled upon ALIORE and the rest was history. I was fortunate enough to have been placed with an amazing family that lives in the beautiful historic center of Montpellier. They welcomed me into their home with open arms. I was to help improve the English of the two 7 year old daughters. The family had every possible board game and book imaginable so it was never boring to practice their English. Whenever possible, the family would speak to me in French and I would attend language exchange meetings in my free time. I felt like my comprehension and spoken skills improved very much. Their schedule was quite flexible so I had the opportunity to explore the city on my free time. This program was an amazing way to have fulfilled my dream of living in France. It was inexpensive and it truly is a cultural exchange. I now have someone to visit when I go back to France!” "

Soizick, the program coordinator, was super helpful every step of the way. She made me feel relaxed and confident and sent many helpful links and materials. My host family was beyond great - I bonded with them right away. They were so welcoming and hospitable and really tried to make me feel at home. This was so much better than taking a French course abroad-- it was a chance to participate in the day-to-day life of French culture and discover the nuances of this beautiful language! " "I highly recommend anyone who's looking for a rewarding cultural experience in France to do this program with Aliore! I was matched with a host family in the city of Montpellier. I had the best time ever being completely immersed in French culture and living like a local. All the while, helping with my host family's English and adjusting to their daily routines and lifestyle. My host family were extremely friendly, hospitable and kind-hearted that I adjusted with no problems at all. The program itself offers great flexibility as I had plenty of time to engage in cultural activities locally and explore nearby towns in the region. My French improved immensely too with self-study and constant exposure to the language and culture.
The application process was very simple and straight-forward thanks to Soizick, the program organiser. She was very patient, helpful and quick to reply to any questions I had about the program. It really took away any worries that I initially had. The program is definitely of great value and I got so much more out of it than I expected. I have many wonderful memories with my host family and many enriching cultural experiences that I'll never forget. The most important thing to remember is to be open-minded, flexible, and you get out what you put in!" "

" "I decided that I wanted to travel to France for the month of November 2017 and spend some time in the Languedoc region. I have spent the last seven years traveling to France for a month or more at a time exploring different areas of the country. I had never used a placement agency before, and I came close to using one in the US but then I happened upon the Aliore website and decided to give it a try.
Soizick Chartier, one of the founding members of the organization, was my contact person. She was extremely attentive to my needs and my questions. It made me feel extremely comfortable. I sent her my bio with picture and received information about a possible placement in Nimes with a French teacher and her 16 year old daughter. I said YES! That first week of my time in Nimes, Soizick hosted a get together in Montpellier with the other students who were also on placement in that area. It was a nice way to meet fellow explorers and also to meet Soizick.
My family lives in Nimes. Nimes is a fantastic jumping off point for a lot of other great places to visit within an easy day’s train ride. I visited Toulouse for a weekend, Avignon 4 times, Montpellier many times (where I attended a French language school based on Soizick’s recommendation), Marseilles, and Carcassonne to name a few.
My host family honestly could not have been more perfect. I fell in love with them! Because I am a “senior” my host gave me all the information to get a senior discount travel card for 80 euros that was good for a month. I must have logged in over twenty five train uses and only had to pay extra once.
The daughter in my family wanted to write a short film in English. She is interested in being a director and writer, so that was my English teaching assignment during my stay. We did not write a short film, we wrote a full length feature. Since we did not have time to finish, I am now skyping with her on a weekly basis to finish her wonderful script.
I speak Intermediate level French and was really challenged to keep up with my speaking and listening. Mothers and daughter have their own “short-hand” in any language and they kept me on my toes. I learned a tremendous amount and could NOT have enjoyed myself more. We went to the movies together, cafes, they took me to an amazing light festival in Montpellier and many other activities. They were both busy during the day, so I had all day to myself to explore and experience. They are currently trying to make plans to come visit me in Los Angeles this summer.
I am 66 years old…so if you are a senior (or not!) I highly highly encourage you to run, not walk to ALIORE if you want to have the experience of a lifetime.
It was MY BEST VACATION EVER! THANK YOU SOIZICK AND ALIORE! I WILL DO THIS AGAIN!"

" "I was very lucky to be placed in the beautiful city of Montpellier in South France where I stayed for 8 weeks right in the city centre with a very friendly and highly-cultured family. The organiser of Aliore offered a lot of help throughout the whole application process to make sure I am 100% happy with my placement and I couldn't be happier with my stay there. Working with kids and teaching them English was also a great opportunity to engage in their culture and the French way of thinking and doing things. What's more, the family often took me to a variety of social, cultural and sports events including friends gathering, music concerts, hiking and day tours so that I could be fully immersed in every possible way. The Mediterranean city Montpellier had tons of entertainment to offer too ranging from museums and bookstores to film and wine festivals. Even the small towns and cities surrounding Montpellier such as Nimes, Avignon and Carcassonne are perfect weekend destinations for you to explore the rich French history and culture, and of course, the irresistibly delicious cuisine of Provence Region. Overall I highly recommend you to go with Aliore for your next exchange program, I really had the best time and in the meanwhile my French improved more than I ever expected. Thank you so much Aliore, I can't wait for my next adventure in France!" "

" "This program is excellent! The advance materials were clear and helpful. It is very useful to have the structure that Aliore provided for the program, so that everyone understands expectations, etc. I was very happy to see the followup questionnaire after one week with the host family, and the final program evaluation that I am now responding to. This program offers an excellent opportunity to learn french--and, more important, I think, to get to know more about french people and french culture.
My particular host family was absolutely wonderful! We had a lot of fun. They were extremely generous with their time and attention. I will always feel a great deal of gratitude and affection for them. I hope that the relationship continues! Accommodations were great, too. And the town of Annecy along with the region around the town.(lake and mountains) were spectacular." "

The fact you have a purpose to the family makes your time a lot easier, as my family always had reason to interact with me and ask questions. My French also improved drastically as I was able to ask them for translations of words when needed, and didn't have to rely on dictionaries or translate apps constantly during conversation. Instead we could maintain it using a mix of English and French. I would highly recommend this programme and I definitely plan to see my host family again in the future!"

It was really special to become part of their family and learn about their culture for a few months. My experience teaching English to a French family through Aliore was really rich and enjoyable. My French family was incredibly kind and welcoming, and I learned about their culture in a way that wouldn't have been possible from visiting France on my own. It was a challenge to tutor English, but it was so rewarding and fun. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone wanting to have a unique experience, improve their French, and learn about French culture."

" "This was hands down the best experience of my life. I was placed with a family near Paris, not in the south, so I was able to visit Paris as much as I wanted. My family is incredible. They made me feel so welcome in their home and included me in their family like one of their own. I was already fluent in French before coming, but this solidified my knowledge of day-to-day vocabulary you can really only learn by living in France. Some days we only spoke English. Others we only spoke French. Each day was different but I can see improvements in their English and my French! I cooked American food for them and they made French dishes. All in all, the experience is what you make of it. You can go out every day or spend your whole day in your room when you're not explicitly doing lessons, but in the end you will never have as good of an experience as you can if you immerse yourself in the culture and spend as much time with your family as possible, like I did. I gained so much out of this program, I would participate again in a heartbeat." "

I also really appreciated the "follow-up" they did. I felt like they were really there for me if I had any problems or just wanted someone to go out with and talk a while. They didnt just match get the money and then disappear like many other associations. Also in terms of the value for my money, I think its one of the best programs out there! I really recommend Aliore because I learned so much and had one of the best experiences in my life!"

" "The organization does what is advertises. I had immediate and clear responses to all my questions from Aliore. They found a family with the requirements I had indicated as preferences. I felt comfortable that if I needed help while in France that there would be an advocate to help me. I learned a lot about the language, customs, culture and history having lived 2 months within an authentic French family's lifestyle. I now have a connection to France through people. » "

" "Aliore was so helpful in finding me a family where I could feel completely safe and comfortable even while it was my first time out of the country and especially since I traveled alone! I felt like a part of the family and enjoyed spending time with them while I was also able to have some time to myself once in a while to relax and especially to explore the surrounding area which was beautiful and had so much to do and see. I have no regrets and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!" "

" "It was a pleasure teaching English in France with Aliore. Soizick was very helpful and the families with whom I stayed were always incredibly kind. I learned a lot from the cultural exchange and the opportunities I had to visit each region, but I also learned much about both the English and French languages through my time teaching. It was a worthwhile experience and an amazing summer." "

" "A fantastic experience. I was unsure of how it would go as I had no previous experience teaching English but the family was so welcoming and the teaching turned out to be a lot more fun than I'd expected! My French definitely improved and I would absolutely recommend the programme to anyone interested." "

" "This is probably one of the cheapest ways to travel to Europe! And a very rewarding experience as well!
Soizick communicates very well through email or phone. She made sure I was happy and safe in France. My favorite thing about the program was that I felt like a real family member. The family was so generous and helpful; they made my time in France fun and enjoyable. I also liked how flexible my time was in France. If I wanted to go into the city for the day, I could. There was no strict schedule I had to keep. " "

" "Everything about the family was perfect, they were extremely kind and lived in a beautiful location. Being around French natives everyday meant that I had to pick up everyday language quickly; I learned many things that I couldn't have learned at school.
I can't recommend my experience as a language exchange assistant enough. There is nothing that I can complain about; I had an incredible summer for an extremely decent price. The family did everything they could to make me feel at home, and my French verbal skills improved drastically."

" "I was completely immersed in the activities and daily life of these people. They treated me as one of their own, and I thought we communicated quite well. Aliore was a great program which immersed me in a French family, and brought our two cultures together. I hope to return to France soon to teach English" "

" "Aliore was a wonderful experience! I got to explore Montpellier like a local for two whole months and meet some incredible people all while staying with an awesome family. My french improved so much during my stay and I got to learn a lot about the art of teaching, familial relationships and cultural exchange. I liked most the sense of community, feeling like a part of the family and then feeling a part of the Aliore team with the meetings and fun outings." "
