" Well this visit was out of the ordinary on many levels. It was my first attempt hosting for three months. Soicick was instrumental in finding an English language program in Portland for Vanessa to attend. It looked like a good plan was in place for her extended learning and the opportunity to meet other young people while here. All went well the first two weeks and then Covid hit. After thinking it over Vanessa decided to stay and do her classes on line. I will say that we managed very well "locked up" together. There was cooking, baking, and wine instruction,. It turned out we were both obsessive enough to enjoy jig saw puzzles. Of course there was Netflix. And since this is Portland there were many hikes and walks in the surrounding neighborhoods and regional parks. Our language skills improved and a life long friendship was forged. Thank you Aliore for sending me such a lovely house guest! Until we can all travel again be safe. "

" This is a great program. Having someone to talk to in French on a daily basis creates a huge opportunity for improvement. Having a person patient and willing to correct my pronunciation and grammar created a big difference in our learning. My family and I enjoyed hosting and spending time with our "student," who was also our teacher.It was wonderful to be able to explore our own surroundings with a fresh perspective. While we had fun exploring museums and activities in our surrounding area, we also learned from each other in the kitchen. Now, I can make crepes and pain perdu. All the questions asked made each of us consider how much culture--even regional culture--can shape our lives. " The 4 weeks went very quickly and sadly Clement had to leave us and return home. I think the time he spent here in Australia gave him a really good taste for our way of life and he immersed himself at every opportunity to try new things and get out and enjoy as much of Wollongong and Sydney as he could during his stay (and a bit of Melbourne too). He was a most affable young man and my wife and I were delighted to have him stay with us. He fitted well into our day to day routines and involved himself fully with our friends and family. Like the ongoing friendship that has continued long after my stay with the French family back in 2012, Clement is keen to stay in touch and continue to develop our friendship in the future. We are perhaps looking at visiting him and his family our next holiday to France. I miss the daily French conversations already and I'm sure Clement's family and friends will be able to hear a bit of the Aussie accent in his English speaking, which really improved as we laughed at the many different expressions used in both languages. Thank you for finding another great match for us in this wonderful program of yours. I hope all your tutors and their host families enjoy the fantastic interchange of language, ideas and culture as much as I have. "
