    Detailed programme

The program takes place on the Malaysian island of Borneo. Borneo is a place of great biodiversity, but the regression of the tropical rainforest poses a threat to many plant and animal species.

That's why our partner, APE Malaysia, is developing programs to raise awareness of these problems and the means to solve them. The organization focuses on conservation and improving animal welfare, both in captivity and in the wild.

As a volunteer, plant trees with your family in the fragmented forests along the floodplains of Lower Kinabatangan, where flora and fauna are abundant but threatened by habitat loss. You and your family can help the local community and observe orangutans, macaques, hornbills and other Borneo wildlife in their natural habitat.

    Examples of activities:

    • Cruise the river to observe the flora and fauna.
    • You'll take part in tree planting, nursery care and tree growth recording.
    • As an introduction to the flora and fauna of the rainforest, you'll go hiking to understand what the rainforest has traditionally offered local people in terms of medicine and food
    • Most lunches and dinners are spent with villagers. You'll have the opportunity to hear about their daily lives, learn about their family structure and see how the Orang Sungai have lived off the rivers and jungle for centuries.

    Good to know

    • Children are advised to bring their own rain boots and life jackets, as these are not available in children's sizes.
    • There are long boat trips lasting from 1 to 3 hours. These boats are long and narrow, and it is not possible to move around in them. Children must be able to sit still and listen to instructions.
    • You'll be in the rainforest. The weather will be hot and humid, with heavy tropical rains (depending on the season).
